The Ballad Style of Maynard Ferguson - HOT ITEM
This 1969 Maynard recording is the only "strings album" that Maynard ever recorded, and was extremely difficult to find for decades. Chase - Chase/Ennea/Pure Music (3 LPs on 2 CDs)
Maynard fans are frequently fans of the jazz/rock band Chase, formed and captained by former Maynard Ferguson lead player, Bill Chase. You can clearly hear Maynard's influence in Bill's soaring and energetic trumpet work. Chase was a rock band with four trumpets, and was known for playing arrangements with a signature "cascading trumpets" sound. Chase had a radio hit with Get It On (still played by pep bands across the country) and recorded three albums before Bill Chase was killed in a plane crash in 1974. This double CD set includes all three Chase albums.
Note: Maynard Ferguson does not appear on these recordings.
